Cambridge, UK, May 19, 2000 - Kaspersky Lab Int., a fast-growing international anti-virus software development company, announces the discovery of a new extremely dangerous variation of the "LoveLetter" virus named "NewLove." Thanks to the powerful built-in heuristic analyser, AntiViral Toolkit Pro (AVP) detects the new virus automatically without any additional update to the anti-virus database.

"NewLove" is much more dangerous than its original. After it distributes copies of itself through the Internet using MS Outlook address book, found on the infected computer, the virus destroys all files on local and network drives.

"We are pleased to announce that AVP users have been protected against the "NewLove" virus even before it appeared! Thanks to the new unique heuristic analyser to combat against unknown viruses, this virus is detected by default without any additional updates being required!" said Eugene Kaspersky, Head of Anti-Virus Research at Kaspersky Lab, "AVP Script Checker stopped the virus on protected systems, preventing the networks and computers from being infected".

Kaspersky Lab issued an emergency update to AVP anti-virus database, which contains procedures for removing the "NewLove" virus from infected systems. The update is available at Kaspersky Lab web site.
